A scenic village surrounded by lush, green mountains and an appealing coastline located on the northeast side of Halkidiki, at Strymonikos. Founded in 1923 by refugees of Agia Kyriaki – Asia Minor took the name of princess of Epirus, Alexander the Great’s mother – Olympiada (it is said that king Cassander exiled her to the islet of Kapros, called by locals Kafkanas). The inhabitants dealt primarily with logging, fishing and agriculture. Today’s village, built alongside a beautiful beach, place suitable for a peaceful holiday and a perfect location to explore the area. With taverns, cafes and fast food, several grocery & souvenir shops,  gas station, pastry shop and a bakery attracts a lot of visitors. Near thе villаge therе is a rocky сape penеtrаting intо the sea arοund which уou cаn find sеveral small seсludеd beаches. Not far away you can find two national parks and waterfalls to explore.

MOUNT ATHOS

Mount Athos, known as the Holy Mountain- is the spiritual capital of the Orthodox Christian world. The Monastic State of the Holy Mountain is known to be the main carrier of Orthodox Christianity and holds spiritual glory and great history. It is a religious community with 1.000 years old monasteries, cells in caves or between the rocks, towers, domes, belfries, chants, etc. It is listed in UNESCO’s World Heritage Monuments. Mount Athos is a self-governed territory of the Greek state, forbitten for women to enter by any means or stay anywhere in the monastic state.  The monks follow the old Julian calendar and the Byzantine time. Monasteries are closed by sunset and open again at sunrise. You can admire the magnificent monasteries by cruising along the west coast of Athos peninsula

ANCIENT STAGIRA

Ancient city located near Olympiada, on a small, mountainous peninsula called “Liotopi” (the testimonies of antiquity said it was waterfront). The city is known as the birthplace of Aristotle – greate philosopher, student of Plato and the tutor of Alexander the Great. Founded in 665 BC by Ionian colonists from Andros . Until the Persian Wars, Stagira was a free, independent and prosperous city. After the Persians it became a member of the Athenian Alliance and allied with the Spartans. Later destroyed and rebuilt by Philip II of Macedon. Archaeological excavations that continue to this day have brought to light important parts of the ancient city and a lot of artifacts were retrieved. Aristotle’s park located in modern Stagira is hosting experimental instruments operating under the natural laws which refer to his writings.

The “pearl” of Macedonia and “crossroads of culture and civilization” was founded by Cassander of Macedon in 315 BC and named after the sister of Alexander the Great. During its history an important metropolis by the Roman period, second largest and wealthiest city of the Byzantine Empire, conquered by the Ottomans in 1430 and remained nearly five centuries under Turkish rule. On 8.11.1912 the city returned to the Kingdom of Greece. Today is Greece’s second major economic, industrial, commercial and political centre, and a major transportation hub for Greece and southeastern Europe. The city is renowned for its festivals, events and vibrant cultural life and is considered to be Greece’s cultural capital. Findings prove that Thessaloniki has been inhabited since prehistoric times, marked by multiculturalism, yet its present day modernised state is charmingly intertwined with history.
